Block 2-3 hours every day for your most important goal

When you go to cinema to watch a movie you prepare yourself for uninterrupted 2-3 hours. Try to also do this every day for your most important task.

I heard this tip in a podcast lately whereTim Ferriss interviewed Gary Keller. Gary Keller is the author of the book The One Thing (Amazon).

What are you doing to make sure that you won’t get disturbed while watching a movie?

  • you get some snacks and something to drink
  • you turn off your phone
  • maybe you go to the bathroom

That are exactly the steps it takes to prepare for 2-3 hours of focused work on your most important goal for the day.

I think it would be quite hard to time block your whole day and to stick to that plan. Blocking only a few hours for one single task on the other hand is very easy, as we all do it every time we go to the cinema.

Also don’t be to harsh to yourself when you are not as productive as planned. The most important thing is to know what your main goal is every day and regularly block out some time to focus on it. Make this a habit and step by step you will get closer to your goal every day and get more and more productive. Imagine where you will be in one year by just making one step every day.
